Apple pie

Don't you just love a lazy Sunday afternoon with a nice piece of pie and a freshly-brewed cup of coffee?
This apple pie recipe is simple and so good.

Ingredients

QuantityProduct
1/2 cupSugar
1/2 cupFirmly packed brown sugar
3 tbspAll-purpose flour
1 tspGround cinnamon
1/4 tspGround ginger
1/4 tspGround nutmeg
6-7 cupsThinly sliced peeled tart apples
1 tbspLemon juice
Pastry for double-crust pie
1 tbspButter
1Large egg white
Additional sugar

Directions

Step 1

Combine the sugars, flour and spices in a small bowl and set aside. In a larger bowl, toss apples with lemon juice and add the sugar mixture; toss to coat.

Step 2

Line a 9-inch pie plate with bottom crust and trim even with edge. Fill the plate with apple mixture and dot with butter. Roll the remaining crust to fit the top of the pie and place it over the filling. Trim, seal and flute the edges and cut slits in the crust.

Step 3

Beat the egg white until it turns foamy; brush the egg white over the crust and sprinkle it with sugar. Cover the edges loosely with foil.

Step 4

Bake the cake at 375°F for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly (about 20-25 minutes). Cool the cake on a wire rack.
